Overview

A very World driven concept than gameplay. The Entire concept is to support more elements and lore that’s happening around. A timid Squire, who accidentally loses his arm in knight training returns home only to see it in ruins, the cause being the strongest magic in the world which conjures chains and can chain up or curtail any magic and its contained in a grimore. It has been unsealed or broken out

from the forbidden castle which no on has set foot on due to its cursed energy that makes people lose their minds or disappear and now, if the protagonist gets to know that the cause of their family and villagers disappearence is the grimore, will he muster the courage to enter the Keep’s castle and confront the grimore which no on has except its previous master and become one of the very few wizards in the world which is considered godly

Process

Initial concept

Initially when the project was started, the idea was that a book which is being held up by a bunch of chains on all sides and the background being a black void surrounded by chains all over the place hanging around shattering and emerging from the ground and you’d be able to see the silhouettte of the the chains in different forms. The colour pallete was supposed to be in grey scale to indicate and enhance the significance of chains around the grimore

After the initail concept, which was put inside a world with all the worldly constraints and lore. the grimore was sealed inside a castle which was considered cursed and the front of the castle is a town of preists who pray everyday to keep the so called “demon“ sealed. With more supersitions, monarchy, history and story, the concept above was created with the pallete just being desaturated around the infected parts of the town

World Building/Design

Narrative design
  • In a kingdom during the medival era, a mysterious fortress was constructed ages ago. Its purpose: to contain a potent magic that threatened to engulf the land. The common folk, unaware of the true nature of this magic, believed it to be a tool of Satan, and thus, the fortress became a symbol of their faith.
  • Deep within the fortress lies an ancient book, a malevolent entity that thrives on fear and weak souls. Trapped within its pages is the spirit of a librarian-king from a time before Christ, a valiant warrior who once battled the dark lord. Now, he is trapped and forever bound to the book.
  • Magic in this kingdom is rare, accessible only to a select few. This particular magic, however, proceeds to gradually, feed off of human emotions and seeks hosts to amplify its power. Those unfortunate enough to fall under its influence lose their will to live, descending into madness.
  • Initially, the fortress was seen as a beacon of hope, a safeguard against the malevolent magic. The people believed that their faith in Christ would shield them. But they weren’t aware that what kept them breathing was their will and hope for the faith making it difficult for the magic to take over However, over time, this faith turned into blind devotion, and with the passing of the first king, support from the capital also fell.
  • Isolated and poor, the town near the fortress suffered. The land, once fertile, became barren, further worsen their plight. The kingdom, embroiled in its own conflicts, turned a blind eye to their suffering, viewing them as a burden.
  • As the town’s desperation grew, so did the magic’s power. The weakened seal of the fortress could no longer contain it. Now, the malevolent force seeks a new master, its influence spreading like a shadow over the land…

The book has a metal exterior with and the pages seemto have tarted and weared out edges. the power source of the book in on the front cover having a glow which also fires up all the other glowables in the book. the pages contain information about the librarian-king

Character And Structural Design

The Characeter silhouttes are for the librarian-king after he got
his powers to fight the dark lords. Since he had enough powers
to fight at a planetary level i wanted to give him a very celestial
appearence that explains the ring behind him and the simmetry.
He has a very distingushed chain type which is also there on the
book further emphasing that they are part of the same world he
is just a conjurerer and the the two chain like floating objects
to conjure and overtime has lost his hands because they were
not usefull and he is a celestial being with the needs of a normal
person

The Structures are heavily inspired from the barrandov’s medival
town in Czech. the materials used is just like most of the buildings
during that time period since this was built and was not taken
care of as much due to the capital not getting involed with the
cursed town as much there is 60% stonework the walls stairway
etc and 40% Woodwork like the roofing and other supporting
elements to the building

The hero prop of the area was the book It was made with the consideration of how heavy the scene would be with all the Chains in the scene. The book is fairly low poly with a high poly bake and was textured in the PBR pipline with base colour, metallness and roughness

Most of the structures are made from one sided planes that was made in unreal modeller and was put an tilable texture on top and unreal also allows to make some more complex shapes in the editor but anything that was more difficult was taken to max and made the desired shape and any other unique meshes were taken from the internet

Since most of the modelling was made in inreal it was really easy to manupulate in the view port and quixel surfaces did not have any issues with and and it came with all the base settings and was very easy to apply

The chain was made with a spline and was blueprinted to instance in an alternating way when the threshold of the transform changes so that it was easy to place and manupulate them in the viewport
